MY APPROACH

I am passionate about life. A passion for life, loves, happiness and joyful moments is a possibility for everyone. The choice to achieve this is yours, and yours alone. You are your destiny however you choose to live. However, we all become “stuck” in ways of behaving, interacting with others which is not fulfilling a purpose in our lives. In other words, we can create our own unhappiness, depression, anxieties by believing more in what others’ may think of us versus what our hearts’ desire may be.

If we create our own unhappiness, then we can also create another way to live by being happy and joyful. Sometimes we just may need a little help becoming “unstuck”. My goal is to help co-create a new vision of your Self as happy. Simple. If you believe you can, then you can with a little bit of creative, adventurous help.

I believe laughter really is the best medicine. Laughter creates joy. Joy creates happiness. When overwhelmed by any situation, we can forget to find our laughter and joy.

Working collaboratively with respect for one’s Self through creative, empowering and inspirational thoughts, we can move towards a healthy Self. Remembering to stop and smell the roses presented to us along the way.

Take a step away from the edge, and take a challenge to be a healthier version of you!

My work with you may incorporate:

  • Mindfulness
  • Solution-Focus
  • Transpersonal
  • Mind-Body Awareness
  • Jungian Psychology
  • Family Systems
  • Kayaking Therapy

“Joan was able to reach my daughter emotionally and psychologically when I was not able to.  She has made a huge difference in her life.” – Laura

Laura’s daughter and I had loads of fun. Yep, “fun therapy” with Joan. We’d sit poolside and talk, laugh, do yoga, make art.  She made huge leaps and bounds in about a year…

ABOUT ME

I have experienced much success within my years as a Therapist working for mental health agencies, as well as private practice. I have particularly enjoyed my years with special populations such as: juvenile offenders, special education, substance abuse, and most recently the field of autism. I developed and implemented successful programs designed for animal abuse issues and fire diversion programs, working closely with probation officers, fire departments within the Bay Area. This led to my working as a consultant with the National Humane Society located in Washington, DC within their First Strike Campaign Program based on my programs for juvenile offenders with animal abuse histories.

My focus the past few years has been my private practice as this allows me to spend more quality moments with the individual and family. I also incorporate spending moments outside. I have found this to be conducive to the healing process for many years. People feel relaxed when spending moments outside. I believe in the quality of human interactions and encourage individuals to benefit from all modalities of healing they might find comfortable for themselves. I would be honored to help guide you towards a happy Self.
